Foil Scoot - boards and foils
You need a board and a foil.
The wooden Origin board is ideal for beginners and kids. It can take a beating.
The Pro carbon board is lighter and stiffer.
What is a Foil Scoot?
With the Foil Scoot, dock starting and pump foiling are now accessible to everyone. The handlebar makes starting easier by providing full balance and control over the board. This allows beginners with no prior foil experience to learn dock starting much more easily.
At the same time, riders who already have foil experience will also find that the learning process is greatly simplified. The added control from the handlebar increases confidence during the start and improves safety. Most people are able to learn pump foiling in just a few attempts, whereas mastering a traditional pump foil can sometimes take months or even years.
It’s the ultimate fitness workout, where you literally fly forward over the water. Pushing yourself to pump just a little farther each time is a huge challenge.
You can easily practice it every day, before or after work, which means you can get on the water incredibly often.
How do you start with a Foil Scoot?
Here we show you different ways to start a Foil Scoot, either by running or from a standstill.
Once you fall into the water, you have to swim back to a starting point. You cannot start from the water.
Foil Scoot running start
Overhanging pier or floating platform
With this method, you can start by running straight ahead, and it’s the easiest way to learn the Foil Scoot. You hold the Foil Scoot halfway over the pier, build up speed by taking a run-up alongside it, and jump straight onto the board at the end.
The pier shouldn’t be too high, otherwise the board can’t be held above it. Somewhere between 20 and 50cm high is ideal.
Boat with swim platform
The foil can go under the platform here, allowing you to build speed within two or three steps and jump straight away.
Usually, these types of platforms aren’t high relative to the waterline. Building up a lot of speed with limited space is a plus here.
A solid quay
By tilting the Foil Scoot’s handlebars, you can ensure the foil’s front wing doesn’t hit the side. From this position, you can run along the water over the quay and jump onto the Foil Scoot while steering it away. This is trickier because you’re maneuvering the Foil Scoot from a tilted to a straight position. However, it allows you to start almost anywhere.
A quay 20 to 40 cm high is ideal. Grass is often better than wood, as you’re less likely to slip during the sideways jump.
Foil Scoot start from standstill
From a standstill, it’s very important to create forward speed from the jump. You want to go forward, not up!
Pier with pilings, but with an overhang
You learn to jump onto the Foil Scoot from a standstill. You can learn this in many locations because many piers have pilings in the water. At the start, you keep the board on the pier and the fuselage with the rear wing sticks out under the pier. By pushing off hard and jumping forward, you create speed which makes the foil want to rise again. After this, you can continue pumping.
A slightly higher pier can help here, as it takes longer until the board hits the water. 60cm high is ideal. But it’s also possible with a 20cm height, though slightly raising the pier can help.
A high pier
A bit less simple to learn. But if the pier is higher than the Foil Scoot’s mast, you can still start just fine. The start is almost identical to that of a lower pier. The only difference is that you hold the board lower than the pier you’re standing on. The tendency is to jump on it without forward speed. But it’s important that you jump forward with this start too. Due to the forward speed, the foil will want to come back up. After this, you can continue pumping.
Of course, the pier shouldn’t be too high either. You still need to be able to reach the handlebars when the foil’s front wing is in the water.
A solid quay
This is very difficult to learn because you easily bump the rear wing against the quay. It’s recommended to first learn how to jump with an overhang before trying this. But once you can jump forward well, jumping from a solid quay is also very possible.
In terms of height, 20 to about 60 cm above the water is fine.

Frequently Asked Questions about Foil Scoot
What is a Foil Scoot?
The Foil Scoot is a groundbreaking watercraft that combines the thrill of pumpfoiling with the stability of a scooter-style handlebar. It is designed to make pumpfoiling easier, safer, and more accessible for everyone, whether you’re an experienced rider or just getting started.
Is Foil Scoot safer than dock starting?
Because you remain in constant contact with the Foilscoot, especially during the jump onto the board, it is significantly safer than riding without a handlebar. Since collisions with the dock or other people are still possible, we always recommend wearing a helmet and an impact vest.
Does the handlebar make pumpfoiling easier to learn?
The handlebar provides extra stability, allowing you to easily balance and control the board. This means you can learn pumpfoiling much faster compared to traditional setups, which often take months to master. The handlebar is also removable, giving you the option to ride without it once you feel comfortable.
Do I need watersports experience to use Foil Scoot?
Not at all. The Foil Scoot is designed for both beginners and advanced riders. The handlebar makes the learning process much easier, so even without prior pumpfoiling experience, you can get started quickly and safely.
Where can I use a Foil Scoot?
The Foil Scoot can be used on lakes, canals, rivers, and the ocean. Ideally, the water should be at least one meter deep to prevent the foil from touching the bottom. Its versatility makes it perfect for gliding over calm water or catching waves.
How long does it take to learn pumpfoiling with a Foil Scoot?
Thanks to the added stability of the handlebar, most riders can start pumpfoiling after just a few attempts. While every rider is different, the learning curve is significantly shorter than traditional pumpfoiling, which can take months or even years to master.
What else do I need to get started with Foil Scoot?
In addition to the Foil Scoot, consisting of a board with a handlebar, you will also need a complete foil setup.
Wearing a helmet and impact vest is strongly recommended. Water shoes are required in many locations for protection, and a wetsuit is necessary in colder conditions.
