KT Wing Drifter 2022/2023 model, what a fantastic board!

In the wing world we see the trend that boards are becoming shorter. There is a lot of talk about the ‘swing weight’. Having a longer board with this would make you feel ‘extra weight’ in the turn. As a result, ‘low-volume’ boards can often be very short. However, you can start with a short board that has little volume, especially if you are taller in combination with. with our choppy North Sea, can be a real challenge. The board really wobbles in all directions. In our opinion, every time that starting fails, it costs an unnecessary amount of energy. That is why we are going to test a theory of ours. That when you are taller, you don’t start easily with a longer board, you have more quality time above the water and the ‘swing weight’ with volume is minimal. You can also start building up more speed faster when you go on the foil, you come up faster with smaller foils and after touchdown on the water you can continue faster. To test the theory, we are specifically looking for a board with less volume, which is a lot longer. That’s how we ended up at KT Surfing, a brand that also has longer boards in its range. Previously, the boards were released under the windsurf brand Quattro, shaped by Keith Teboul. We chose the KT Wing Drifer 5″4 with 56 liters for the test. The longest model with a fairly low volume. Our theory was absolutely right. From the first moment we were completely IN LOVE with this board! your past, this was one such case. The KT Wing Drifer 5″4 with 56 liters is really a beautiful board to look at. Because of the length of this board it looks a bit like “gunboard” as it is called in wave surfing. But the shape makes for such an easy ride, resulting in you quickly appreciating that nose! We have really not experienced swing weight at all. This is also a very fast form to learn. The board is lightweight, beautifully finished. We totally get why a topper like Kai Lenny (and half Hawaii) surfs with this brand. Incidentally, the 62 liters is shorter than our 56 liters from the test. (see picture below for the contours of all sizes) The advantages of a longer board:

• Easy to start (for a low volume board with 85kg)
• Gets up to speed quickly
• Lots of control with jumping and wave riding
• Very good touchdown and re-entry
• Very nice anti-slip
• Direct feeling with the foil
• Fine offset for the rear footstrap.
• Supplied with beautiful MFC footstraps

If we should report 1 point for improvement, it is that there is no carrying handle Your arm can go around the board, but with a shorebreak this is nice. With the boards from 65L there is a carrying handle at KT Surfing.
